Erika Reyes 2 months agoAtmosphere is great. Small menu but the food is absolutely delicious. The signature drinks where extra strong.
Greg Donohue a year agoI've been here three times and counting. By far one of my favorite tiki bars, and I've been to a good amount throughout the US. First off, I love the themed entrance! One of my favorites. I wish all tiki bars had one. Easier said than done, of course, but it's always a fun treat that sets the mood. We've tried a number of their drinks, and we haven't been disappointed by any of them. My personal favorites are their Navy Grog and Pele's Fire, but I feel confident in saying that you couldn't go wrong with any of their drinks. They have other options if you're not in the mood for a tiki drink. Speaking of drinks, each time I've been here the bartenders have been very friendly and welcoming. Hats off to all of you! Food is good, too! I took the bartender's recommended to get the burger. It was delicious. Two of the three times I've been, they've had a band playing. The first was a surf rock band - the second was a blues band. I'm not really into loud music at bars, but even I had to admit they were good, and it was still really enjoyable. I recommend you bring ear plugs just in case! Tiki theming is pretty good, imo. Not the best I've seen, but it's a smaller and cozy bar with plenty of the tiki basics: puffer fish lights, thatched roofs, great lighting, bamboo, etc! Just very enjoyable to have a drink in such a nice atmosphere. If you're in the Long Beach area and a fellow tikiphilr, definitely stop by and give Secret Island a visit!
Mayi Calamar 11 months agoDecoration game is strong, kitchen closed 9:30 pm on a Saturday. There was only two bartenders with the bar pretty full, it took us 20-30 minutes standing by the bar to get drinks. They were delicious and heavy handed, just the wait was much longer than expected. I believe one bartender called off so they were down one making it a longer wait than I would usually accept. No waiters for drinks so standing in line took away from spending time with our group. Food looked good but we got there 9:20 and there was no one hosting so by the time we got to grab a table on our own we couldn’t order food. Overall the place is really cool, but it’s hard to have conversations because the music is so loud. Might return making sure to get there very early for food and to get a table away from the band playing in hopes I get to hear what my friends are saying. Drinks and atmosphere are great tho, so definitely worth giving it another shot.
L C a year agoLike the name implies, the Secret Island Tiki Restaurant and Lounge is a small tiki bar hidden beneath a restaurant. There are plenty of signs showing you the way, but if you're not paying attention, you'll miss it. The "surprise" will reveal itself as you make your way into the bar. Once inside the dimly lit room, you'll find plenty of tiki decor, tables and booths. As with most tiki bars, the place is laid back with soft rock playing in the background (Dobbie Bros, Eagles, Paul Davis, etc.). Cool vibes all around. We ordered a Painkiller, Piña Colada, and Pele's Fire. All drinks were stiff, but great. We also ordered some french fries to munch on — so good. The staff was awesome, the place was clean, and prices were fair. If you're looking for a place to relax with friends and enjoy an umbrella drink, this is your spot. Next time I'm in town, I'll definitely be back.
