Katherine Sanchez 3 months agoGreat place to eat because it’s a historic spot. If you haven’t had it try it so you have your own decision if it’s good or not. I got to say I love all the LA times and pictures of the city that I love Los Angeles! A lot of memorabilia with the Dodgers I enjoyed seeing the bobble heads. I don’t know about yall but the coleslaw was awful I almost threw up . I told the manager and they switched it to the potato salad . Now that was a hit! I was able to see old telephone booths and take a picture with my beautiful husband ! Definitely feels creepy . Saw homeless going in the restroom but I get it they can’t control that especially being so close to the Union Station. Very clean place thought you are constantly seeing them pick up tables and sweeping ! Thank you staff glad I went to it for the very first time but it will definitely be my last because the food wasn’t good . Either that or I’m pregnant and my taste buds have changed .
Gabri van Cruchten 2 months agoI heard I had to visit this on my trip to LA, so I did. I parked the car for free in Chinatown and walked from there to Philippe's. The staff was very welcoming, even to a new and unsure customer like me. I took the beef double-dip with mustard, and some pickles. It tasted very good, and kept me full for a long time. Would definitely recommend.
Ivy Mac 3 months agoIt's wonderful that they have managed to keep this wonderful establishment going. It feels like a time capsule; servers in 40s uniform, sawdust on the floor, a row of old phone boxes, classic wooden booths, and a fantastic menu from the period. We had the beef and turkey dips and their famous macaroni salad...all delicious.
Matt P 5 months ago"Historic? You've gone to the right place!" My aunt told me over the phone. There was a line, and a lot of the crowd seemed like locals and the cashiers knew exactly what they wanted. Definitely wins in the atmosphere, and service was really nice. Plenty of seating and plenty of parking. I could smell the food upon entering. It was a pretty busy day, and the line moved steadily along, as those cashiers seemed to have everything down to a science. I got the classic beef dip, potato salad, and pickles. I was hungry. Right off the bat, I could tell from the smell of the restaurant that they bake the bread fresh. This was confirmed when I sank my teeth into this sandwich. Light, airy, and crispness that you should get from French bread. The meat - very tender, and juicy, and can taste the Au Jus sauce well. The potato salad was very nice, and the pickles were a nice touch. You can find plenty of seats. A lovely sandwich, and glad I drove through all that traffic for this delightful experience. If you're a sucker for historic restaurants like me, go here and get the original French Dip.
Julio a month agoPhilippe's The Original is an LA staple. I love going here before a Dodger game. There's always a line out the door before a Dodger game. This places a huge. There is a lot of seating. The atmosphere is energetic. There are a lot of Dodgers fans. I love the quickness of the service. The women and men behind the counter are hustling, making the sandwiches, and keeping the line moving. I got the Beef Dip. I got it dipped in the aju sauce. I love adding the hot mustard that they have. Oh man, that is hot! It cleans your sinuses. They have a lot of choices on the menu, like different types of meat for the dips. Different types of potato and macaroni salad, pickled pickles, eggs, beets, and pig's feet. They also have a breakfast menu with items like pancake and French toast. A full breakfast menu. It's a 10 of 10. I truly recommend this place.
