Coming in for a kung fu tournament and decided to detour and stop by here. Great great chicken. If you are a fan of a little kick and great chicken, this is a must. The breading on the chicken was amazing. I am generally not a fan of coleslaw but with a little hot sauce this hit my palette perfectly. The fried green tomatoes were also good. I had the dark meat plate and my son had the white. All good food and good atmosphere. Very attentive service but not overbearing. Jimmy D gave us a very pleasant experience on our first stop on town.

If you love fried chicken I mean if you really love fried chicken you need to check out this place! Gus's world famous fried chicken has great seasoning with just enough spice. The daily special featured catfish which is also made with the same batter that is used in the fried chicken. The sides were very good compliments to the chicken and the catfish. The sweet potato pie was a great way to wrap up the meal. The service was great! Jimmy greeted me promptly & took my order. My drink was never empty the whole time I was here. He also inform me about the items on the menu, he is a great ambassador for the brand. There is a very comfortable laid back atmosphere with a great mix of blues and R&B music playing. I heard one of my favorite Isley Brothers song! I highly recommend this place It would be great to have a location in the West valley!

Have you visited Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken? This little place is located on Van Buren in downtown Phoenix. I can't say enough how crispy, tender, juicy, and flavorful the chicken always is. I recently tried their fried catfish and it was just as delicious. Their seasoning recipe has a kick to it and they never fail to deliver a crispy chicken. Their fixings are great; I've tried all of them and favor their collard greens and fried okra. What I love about them is that the chicken is always fresh. They cook it until you order it. I also enjoy their deserts- I'm a chocolate chess and sweet potato pie girl. Their establishment is very cozy and there's plenty of seating. I enjoy their decor and ambience. Staff is phenomenal. They're attentive, respectful, and always greet and serve you with a smile. Been visiting for years and have never been disappointed. The recipe is consistent, quality of food is always on point, staff always puts their best foot forward and the price is extremely reasonable. Overall impressed with the restaurant and highly recommend!

5 stars isn’t a high enough rating for this food, atmosphere, and staff. I’m from the East Coast and there is nothing like this. The signature batter they use for the chicken is what makes it irresistible. But the kindness of Amy, is top notch. She is so kind and walked us through the entire menu as first timers. So sweet and will be back!

My friend and I were looking for somewhere to eat after listening to very loud music—basically, we wanted something low-key with good food, but had no clear plan. Then we saw Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken on the list and immediately thought, “that’s it.” “World famous” did make us pause for a second, but we figured we’d test that claim ourselves. Our waiter, Jimmy D., described the chicken as spicy Southern fried chicken, which sounded great in theory… but also a little intimidating. He promised it wasn’t too spicy, so we trusted him and went for it. The chicken showed up hot, crispy, and very confident in itself. It had that light crunch on the outside and stayed juicy inside, and the flavor actually backed up the hype. Was it spicy? Yes. Was it the kind of spicy that makes you stop eating? Absolutely not. It was the kind that makes you keep going, even while quietly reconsidering your life choices. At one point, we both decided dessert with fried chicken was a completely reasonable decision. No regrets. So yes, “world famous” might sound like a bold claim, but… I get it now. If you go, say hi to Jimmy D. for me. 🍗
